The company has been recently set up to develop, publicise and stage chess playing events throughout the U.K. Geoff Graham, Gareth Ellis and Howard Wood are the current Directors of this company. Please see below some brief details about us.
Schedule of chess events in North Wales
We hope to add further events in the not to distant future to stimulate interest in our great sport.
Chess playing, especially in the Junior age groups should be encouraged and supported in North Wales.
We hope to stage simultaneous and rapid play events locally in North Wales in conjunction with the local Rhyl& Prestatyn Chess Club and other interested organisations
Brief History of the Rhyl Chess Congress
The Rhyl Congress is a FIDE/WCU event, carrying on in the long tradition of hosting Chess Congresses in North Wales.

Event Organisers
Geoff Graham
Geoff Graham, a recent member of the Rhyl & Prestatyn Chess Club, is the event Director and can be reached on info@rhylchesscongress.co.uk
Geoff has been an avid chess player all his life, having been taught by his father as a young boy.
Very competitive during adolescence, Geoff rose to play top board in the London Middlesex county team and in 1967 won the open Southern England County Championships.
A career in accounting and raising a family, side lined a budding chess competitive career.
Now retired, Geoff enjoys "over the board" chess match play and hopes to attend more Congresses in the future.
Both Geoff and a Rhyl & Prestatyn team colleague, Gareth Ellis, wish to provide an enjoyable Congress experience for all like minded players.
Along with Chess Essentials Howard Wood, the three Directors of UK Chess Congress Limited wish to promote regular events.
The September 2025 56th Rhyl Chess Congress is our first offering and hope that we will be enthusiastically supported.
